About the Topographic style

Topographic is the signature Outposters look: the real contour lines of the terrain around your trail, drawn edge to edge across the whole sheet with no border and no margin. Index contours are set heavier than the intermediate lines, exactly as on a survey map, so the shape of the land reads at a glance from across a room. The trail itself is traced over the contours with a light halo so the route never disappears into dense terrain.

A soft gradient wash at the foot of the poster clears space for the trail name, its state or region, the distance and the elevation gain, set in large editorial type. Because the contours come straight from the elevation model, a steep canyon reads as tightly packed lines and a rolling ridge as wide, calm bands. No two trails produce the same drawing.

Like every Outposters print, a Topographic poster is rendered on demand for the trail you choose, from the route geometry and public elevation data (USGS 3DEP in the United States, AWS Terrain Tiles elsewhere), printed to order at 300 DPI and shipped rolled in a tube. It comes in 4 sizes, 12×16″ at $39, 18×24″ at $59, 24×32″ at $79, 30×40″ at $99, all at the same 3:4 proportion; every size except 24×32″ fits a standard frame. Free US shipping.
