About the Lake Solitude hike

Lake Solitude is a 14.2-mile out-and-back in Grand Teton National Park, climbing 2,246 feet between 6,808 and 9,049 feet above sea level. The steepest pitch reaches 29 percent, against an average of 158 feet of gain per mile. On our gain-and-distance scale it falls in the very strenuous band. The nearest town is Jackson, 32 km away.

Rather than a generic mountain graphic, the Lake Solitude print maps this exact route: 208 points of elevation data, 2,246 feet of gain, 14.2 miles end to end. The high point sits at the turnaround, about 7.1 miles in. Every style on this page uses that data; only the palette and layout change.

The trail

The Lake Solitude Trail is a 4.8-mile (7.7 km) long hiking trail in Grand Teton National Park in the U.S. state of Wyoming. The trail begins at the Forks of Cascade Canyon and follows Cascade Creek up through North Cascade Canyon to Lake Solitude.
