About the Observation Point hike

2,131 feet of elevation gain over 6.7 miles: that is Observation Point, an out-and-back in Zion National Park running between 4,388 and 6,519 feet. The steepest pitch reaches 33 percent, against an average of 318 feet of gain per mile. On our gain-and-distance scale it falls in the strenuous band. The nearest town is Hurricane, 32.9 km away.

192 elevation samples along Observation Point make up the profile on this page and the contour work on the print, so a steep section shows as a steep line, not a flat one. The high point sits at the turnaround, about 3.4 miles in. It is printed to order in every size and style listed on this page.
