The Long Path (Section 8) (Lower Hudson Valley) is a 6.6-mile point-to-point route with 1,254 feet of gain. Elevation ranges from 471 feet to 1,600 feet. The steepest pitch reaches 35 percent, against an average of 190 feet of gain per mile. On our gain-and-distance scale it falls in the moderately strenuous band. The nearest town is Woodbury, under a mile away.
The trail
The Long Path is a 357-mile (575 km) long-distance hiking trail beginning in New York City, at the West 175th Street subway station near the George Washington Bridge and ending at Altamont, New York, in the Albany area. While not yet a continuous trail, relying on road walks in some areas, it nevertheless takes in many of the popular hiking attractions west of the Hudson River, such as the New Jersey Palisades, Harriman State Park, the Shawangunk Ridge and the Catskill Mountains.
